Annotated bibliographies

The reading room has always been fragments and the stacks a list of books by tradition. These shelves are different: checked sources on one research subject each, with a few sentences on what every work did and why it matters, and a DOI or stable link on every entry.

*human–AI interaction — 21 works, Licklider 1960 to the present
*metascience — 10 works on replication and research practice
*signal detection — 10 works, Thurstone 1927 to Macmillan & Creelman
*machine behaviour — 20 works on what trained machines do
*cybernetics — 17 works, Maxwell 1868 to Kline
*memory — 14 works, Ebbinghaus 1885 to engrams
*neuroscience — 35 works, Harlow 1868 to FlyWire
*Pitts and the frog — fifteen works on Walter Pitts and the people around him
*machine-made art — 13 works on how people respond to it, Kruger 2004 to Porter & Machery
*the archive — primary documents, introduced: from Lovelace 1843 to Libet 1983

the other shelves

*the reading room — fragments, pinned up in no particular order
*the stacks — a reading list, shelved by tradition
*math — Bayes 1763, Fourier 1822, and older

Every research area page also ends with its own reading list, built from what it cites. The replication, cybernetics, memory, neuroscience and machine-made art timelines put shelves in date order.
